For glamour and excitement, nothing really beats show jumping and at the Northumberland County Show (www.northcountyshow.co.uk), with British Showjumping Association endorsement, the showjumping classes expand each year. Gun Dog trials are run throughout the show and you are encouraged to take your dog and enter. (The mind boggles with our dog: Whose is that dog? ). Throughout the show the ring will be filled with livestock exhibitions and competitions, show-casing the best of local breeds and handling.

And, as well as these traditional show endeavours, there are also some more unusual, high-octane family entertainments on offer ranging from quad-bike theatre pieces to motorbike stunt acts(gulp!) making this a hotspot for great family days out.
