The Ayrshire coast line, with its breath-taking vewis across the Firth of Clyde to Arran and other neighbouring islands will surpise many visitors with its long sandy beaches, rolling countryside, atmospheric market towns and tucked away rural villages. The cultural heritage , (poet Robbie Burns was born just outside of Ayr and architect Robert Adam's designed Culzean Castle and Country Park near Maybole) like so many other places in Scotland, is palpable . This region's terrain is perfect for enthusiasts of many sporting activities and golf, kite-surfing, surfing and swimming are popular. With this stretch of coast being less than an hour's drive from Glasgow, the campsites on this page are ideal for sea-side weekends away from the city. But it's in Scotland , many southerners will now be shouting, that's so far away . Well, actually the road and rail links to this particular part of Scotland are great, making it a really accessible UK camping destination . And if you're a foodie (or at least you're like me and you like eating - not sure if these are quite the same things!) this area is great, boasting a wide range of resturants, bistros and bars with local produce practically rolling out of the surrounding countryside and onto your plate.Campsites in Ayrshire Here we have details of camping in Ayrshire near the all year round dog friendly beaches near Ayr, so that you can plan holidays with dogs in this region with more ease. Heads of Ayr Beach: Set against the impressive backdrop of the Heads of Ayr, this small sandy beach with some rocks is backed by a grassy area. It is quiet and secluded, well worth exploring with rock pools revealed at lower tides. Take a picnic, build sandcastles and play games on the grass, or lie back and enjoy the views of the Isle of Arran, across the sea. Some parking is available.Prestwick Beach: This long sandy beach provides plenty of space for the family to walk and play and offers one of the best sunsets on this West Coast of Scotland with breath-taking views across the sea to Arran. The town of Prestwick is nearby with many facilities, but the beach-side facilities also include shops, a restaurant, a hotel, toilets and a great tradional promenade. The nearby golf course at Prestwick Golf Club is famous for being the birthplace of the Open Championship. At low tide, if you walk northwards along the beach you can cross the pow burn, but you'll need to take your shoes off to avoid wet socks!Barassie Beach: Lying to the North of Troon Harbour, this accessible Ayrshire beach is popular for watersports and sailing as well as a favourite for walking or just plain relaxing. The sand stretches long and wide, with spectacular views and bordered by a wide grassy area ideal for picnics and games. Local facilities include a supermarket, golf course, shops and a good choice of eateries.
