Campsites near Vale of Rheidol Railway

This 11 mile heritage line running from Aberystwyth through a number of stations to Devil's Bridge, is a popular tourist attraction in this area of Ceredigion and it's easy to understand why. Originally built to transport iron ore to the coast at Aberystwyth, it is now run as a passenger attraction by a charitable trust with two large and powerful steam locomotives: 'Llwelyn' and 'Prince of Wales'. On this page we have created a listing of campsites near Vale of Rheidol Railway, touring grounds, holiday parks and camping sites all providing great access to the exhilarating whistle blasts and hisses of steam emanating from the locomotives that run this line.

The Rheidol Valley is a stunning area of Mid Wales and exploring it on a steam train provides insights which would be impossible to achieve through any other means, as the trains follow cuttings which hug the contours of the valley's terrain, encompassing sharp curves and steep gradients along the route of this Aberystwyth Railway. Watch majestic Red Kites out of the window of your carriage, as they too enjoy the rolling terrain of the wooded Rheidol Valley and enjoy fabulous views of Rheidol Reservoir as you wind your way up the mountain.

Park at Aberystwyth Station (SY23 1PG). At Devil's Bridge you can make a stop and take on some refreshments at the station. For those who want to pack a picnic, you can spread a blanket in the picnic area here. If you are an enthusiast you'll be among friends on this railway as it is run by steam-lovers who love to talk shop!
