Campsites near Severn Valley Railway, Worcestershire

The Severn Valley Railway line, running from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, is a substantial heritage route with 16 miles of track with a one-way journey time of over an hour. Great days out are waiting to be had here! As with many steam railways, ticket prices provide unlimited travel on the day of purchase, which leaves you with plenty of scope for boarding and alighting from a train (my favourite bits!) again and again throughout the day.

The line, which was never really busy when in service from the 1860s is now a major tourist attractions, with over 250,000 visitors a year enjoying the immaculate stations, locomotives and carriages; enthusiasts ceom to see the impressive fleet of steam locomotives running the line including Erlestoke Mnor (GWR 4-6-0 no 7812) and Sir Keith Parke (SR 4-6-2 No.34053). The hubbub of steam, activity and excitement is infectious - people even get married on these trains!

You can park at Bridgnorth, Bewdley or Kidderminster stations and board your train, soon to be whooshing through the beautiful countryside in considerable style! The line itself has a number of important rail-related features...Victoria Bridge, with a 200ft span, was the largest Bridge in the world when it was built in 1861.
