I live in the scottish highlands, planned a round trip of uk, everything went fine until hitting london as we came into london from kent. we noticed a sign saying you are entering a emmission zone ? i arrivved at my destination in croydon. i ask my relatives and friends ? never heard of it was the most replies.
fortunatly i had my lap top at the house i logged in to see what this emmissions zone was about, boy was i shocked, it is huge, way out to heathrow area in the west then right across london to essex. i thought these zones were for central london. i phoned the number on the web site to see what i had to do , after taking my reg number of my vw 1981 transporter camper i was informed that i would have to pay a fee of £200 i was horrified, my next question would bring tears to my eyes, will this cover me leaving, no that will be another £200 my uk trip now stalled iam visiting family, if i use my van whilst in london it will cost me £200 daily or £1400. a week.
apparently if my vw was oler i may have got away with it. the cut off date is 1st jan 1973 prior to that date you are exempt for this charge
i only tell this story to warn other campers with older vans etc this happenned in july of 2014
