A-Z of City Camping

City camping? Eh?

Try to clear from your mind disturbing images of your family pitching a tent on a hard, cold pavement or in a dark corner of a public park. We're not advocating laying your head within inches of lines of busy traffic or outside a lively nightclub as a pleasant experience. We are, however, suggesting that camping can provide a great base for a city break.

Consider the wisdom of choosing a campsite in the suburbs or surrounding countryside of a city, complementing the high-octane excitement on offer in that conurbation with the benefits and fun of a camping trip. Expensive hotel or B&B bills? Not likely. Camping near a city ensures access to the culture, history, shopping and flamboyance of that city, without your wallet being savaged. Good Lord, we might have just struck on that fabled fairytale land you may have heard of: 'The Best of Both Worlds'...

Campsites Near London

With so many of the UK's top tourist attractions being situated in our nation's fair capital, there will be many families out there stuck in perennial discussions about how and when to take that promised city break in London.

Steep London hotel prices needn't be the deal breaker.

These London Campsites offer easy access to the museums, parks and landmarks of London, many of which are free to enjoy. So, you can head to the Dinosaur exhibitions at the Natural History Museum with your T-Rex mad offspring, you can stand on London Bridge and count the bongs of Big Ben, you can take a picnic to Hyde Park and play a game of hide and seek before heading off to see the Queen at Buckingham Palace... and then relax in comfort and space back at your campsite for a beer or two at the end of each day.

Bristol camping

Bristol has recently been voted the best UK city to live in and it's not at all bad as a venue for a city break, either.

If you haven't visited Bristol before you might well be surprised by the vibrant creativity of this lively city, where the tradition of street art has genuinely influenced the visual make-up of the landscape. If you take a Banksy Tour you'll spot the famous works of this illusive Bristol-based artist.

Bristol Zoo, Aquarium and Science Museum are all celebrated attractions, drawing thousands of visitors.

And the best bit about city camping near Bristol? You don't have to compromise on your carefully guarded camping habits - with so many Bristol Camping options to choose from, you'll easily find a site with facilities to suit your needs.

Edinburgh Campsites

With an overwhelming offer to its visitors, Edinburgh's lively culture and vibrant history makes it an ideal base for a city break. For some of us, Edinburgh may seem like a long way for a weekend break, so why not treat Edinburgh as the gateway to the Lothians, hand in your notice at work and head for the Scottish wilds!

If you love to shop, you'll need to keep yourself under a watchful eye in Edinburgh, as the city is famous for its quirky independent stores as well as for its big high-street branches.

Those who like to get beneath the skin of a city by delving into its history will love to explore the narrow, cobbled streets of the Old Town, awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status.

Of course, you are likely to be visiting Edinburgh for its culture - you may have heard of this wee festival they hold there each year, you know the one - it tends to spill out into the streets a fair bit? Well, these Edinburgh Campsites are ideal bases from which to abandon yourself into the flamboyance of the Edinburgh Fringe.

Brighton Campsites

A huge nation's favourite, with a pumping pulse, lively night-life all existing beside the seaside, is Brighton.

Perhaps you're heading to Brighton with a couple of sought-after gig tickets in-hand? Or perhaps its the day-time excitement of galleries, shopping, beach-side amusements and the fun of Brighton Pier. Whatever your poison, it's likely that you'll enjoy the contrast offered by a campsite just outside the bright lights.

Coming in all shapes and sizes, many with glamping options and some, like this one, with a spot of fishing available too, these Brighton Campsites really do offer the cake and the cherry.
