What was great?
A hidden gem, situated in Exmoor National Park this excellent family friendly site is in a lovely location tucked away from busy roads and built up areas. There is a shallow stream alongside the site which is great for paddling in on a hot day, my kids had hours of fun there with all their new friends. Woodland borders the site to the south leading onto the moors providing some interesting walks and a short stroll into Porlock. There are stables on site offering rides for all abilities and despite having no experience with horses my kids spent hours helping out at the stables grooming the horses and mucking out with guidance from the stable team. The toilets and showers are all well kept and clean and the small shop has a basic variety of toys, food and camping equipment. Fresh cakes, bread & croissants can be ordered to avoid disappointment. We found the owner, Julian, to be very friendly and helpful and he ensured that the site was kept quiet after 10pm which is great if you have younger children. This is one of the best sites I have stayed at, in terms of location it is hard to beat and I loved the friendly atmosphere on the site. I enjoyed my 16 night stay so much last year I have booked to do it again this year.

Even better if....
The camping pitches are on a very slight incline and each morning my kids awoke all squashed in one corner or the tent where they had rolled off their sleeping mats.

What was great?
Everything! The owner, Julian, cannot do enough for people; his staff are the same. The facilities are well cared for and rarely do you queue for showers. The clean stream that borders the site is a major draw for adults and children alike, and as it's dammed, its even possible to swim in! The site is on Exmoor, and has direct access through the wooded walks. Up the lane are 2 rather nice tea rooms, with a small car park and conveniences for walkers at the rear. The site has its own spotlessly clean stables, with well cared for ponies and horses, which can be hired for group rides covering all abilities. The horses live on a field adjacent to the site and are great to watch in the evening. Also on site is a small shop with essentials, and cakes made at the tea room for sale. Slightly expensive goods but only what you'd expect. The site is 1/4 mile from the main road, so the only traffic noise is from vehicles using the lane, so minimal. It's wonderful to wake up and all you hear are the splashing of the stream, singing birds and neighing ponies. No aircraft noise either. We love this site so much we return at least 3 times a year! There are people on site who have been returning for over 40 years and remember playing with Julian when he was a boy! Now my kids play with his kids!

Even better if....
There needs to be a small play area for littlies who can't get to the stream unsupervised, and the wifi is very slow, but that's no bad thing!
