Selworthy Beacon. Exmoor

Set in Somerset, within the Exmoor National Park, Selworthy Beacon at 309m is accessible both via the South West Coast Path and by road, making this an accessible viewpoint for all members of the family, young and old. Paths to this beacon, as with so many others, have been trodden for thousands of years: near the summit lies a series of Iron Age cairns and the sixteenth century saw Selworthy Beacon used to warn of impending invasions.

The views from the top of Selworthy offer a unique perspective on the south coast of Wales and of the Bristol Channel. On a clear day, it will feel as though you can reach out and touch the sand on those distant Welsh beaches. In the other direction the wilds of Exmoor will spread out beneath you, brushed purple with heather and vivid gorse-ochre - an absolute picture.
