OK, so we all know and appreciate the pride that Scottish people feel for their nation: it's audible, it's palpable and it's what makes holidays in Scotland extra-special. Well, imagine now if you will, a venue where that pride is whipped up, concentrated and bottled to produce an essence of one of the most celebrated and tradition-soaked regions of that bonny country: we have just described the Royal Highland Show. The organisers call it 'The Greatest Show on Earth' and they might just be right . Certainly it will provide endless entertainment, stimulation for learning and life-long memories. It's a huge eclectic mix of everything Highland-countryside-related. Children will love the animals - last year there were over 5,000 head of cattle, horses, pigs and sheep entered, many of the icon breeds of the Highlands - and other exciting activities laid on for them. FREE for under-16s the show makes for really affordable family days out. Food and drink? You'll be blown away. The Royal Highland Show has partnered with the Scotland Food and Drink organisation: entries for the covetted 'OSCARs' of the food and drink industry in Scotland have started already. So, visit the Highland Show and fling yourself into the characteristically Scottish larder of scrumptiousness that is the Food Hall, sampling the artisan food and drink on offer there. (This is making me hungry...) If you like to shop, you'll love this show: you'll be able to dress yourself 'Scottish' from head to toe with the produce of the many independent designers and makers showcasing their wares in the different trade tents at the show. And with the focus on renewable technologies so high on the world agenda, you'll find the Renewable Energy section of the show fascinating and informative.
