Leighton Moss, Lancs

Camping in Lancashire is great fun anyway and exploring this stunning area of Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the edge of Morecambe Bay, is going to keep everyone happy. Add to this RSPB Leighton Moss, the most extensive reedbed in north-west England and, as such is a crucial habitat for some rare birds: breeding Bitterns with their characteristic 'booming', Bearded Tits and stealthy Marsh Harriers. These birds thrive here alongside a great deal of other wildlife, including an array of butterflies in summer. Ah - a perfect combinatoin for a camping bird-watching holiday!

RSPB Leighton Moss is a well organised site without this detracting from the beauty, peace and tranquility of the birding experience. Choose from a number of trails, many with hides, and you will find yourself in the thick of the reedbed and the excitement! Wheelchair users can gain access to the vast majority of the site. If you want to see waders and waterbirds in action, take the coastal lagoon trails.
