Marsden Rock, Tyneside Beach

Marsden Bay, located on the outskirts of South Shields in North East England, is home to one of the most important sea bird colonies in the land. Marsden Rock is a huge sea-stack rising 30 metres from the dramatic North Sea some 100 metres from the cliff face of the mainland; owned by the National Trust, Marsden Rock can only be reached at low tide. Seasoned birders know this rock well for its thousands of pairs of Kittiwakes, Fulmars, Gulls and Cormorants, all thriving on their cliff-perches and hunting in the North Sea: a mesmerising spectacle for seasoned birder, wildlife photographer or families looking to appreciate the natural world.

Located just North of Marden Rock are The Leas, an important sea-bird sanctuary, stretching 2 miles and with easy access for the walker.
