Ramsey Island

Ramsey Island, off the coast of Pembrokeshire, West wales, is worth a visit anyway for so many reasons: the beauty of the island is stunning and the views back towards perfect Pembrokeshire are breathtaking. However, for naturalists, this special place promises more than pretty vistas, the wildlife both beneath the waves and topside being abundant. Ramsey Island Boat trips are packed with photographers and birders who want to experience the magic of this haven for both sea-birds and coastal species. The 120 metre high cliffs provide perfect nesting ledges for intelligent Choughs and Peregrines and the flower-clad slopes of the island provide excellent nesting grounds for Manx Shearwaters and Wheatears. You'll also see a large colony of Guillemots and Razorbills, raising their chicks on the cliffs and hunting in the marine-rich waters below.

Getting to Ramsey is by boat, from St Justinians. You'll need to book your ticket through Thousand Island Expeditions in St Davids (01437) 721686. These St Davids camping options will place you within easy access of St Justinians (not to mention the hundreds of other local spots ideal for seeing bird life along the bays and cliffs of the coastal path.)
