Epping Forest Camping

This area of ancient woodland sits unusually close to our nation's great capital and yet a surprising peace and tranquility pervades the twenty four square kilometers of protected and managed woodland and heath: camping in Epping Forest and the surrounding area offers a haven for people as well as wildlife as it provides an accessible expanse of wild for thousands of city dwellers looking for a camping UK experience. OK, Epping Forest can hardly be described as vast, but it's big enough to be home to a surprising diversity of wildlife and is recognised as a site of special scientific interest: there are around 500 rare and endangered insect species dwelling in the forest, so watch your step!

Walking through the forest is a history lesson in agriculture: the effects of it having been a people's forest for many hundreds of year, with open access for grazing and pastures, apparent in the landscape and trees. Epping Forest camping offers those in the city wanting to reconnect with nature a great location in which to recharge the batteries.

Mountain bikers love Epping Forest as the sport is generally permitted away from sensitive areas and the fast, hard-packed single tracks are ideal for race-training. Running, rambling and horse-riding are also popular and those into fishing will love to explore, as twenty four of the local lakes and ponds are permissable with the correct rod licence.
