Hoorah! For those detectorists who have been in touch with Campsite Chatter over the past months, asking if we know of campsites that allow metal detecting on site, the answer is, "Yes, we do!" The green flags on the map below represent campsites that allow metal detecting on site, be that in the farmland adjoining the camping fields, in the woodlands within which the campsite is situated or in a designated part of the campsite itself. Each campsite is different, of course, but it is interesting to note that the majority of them reside in areas of considerable natural beauty, which is great because it means that the camping is likely to be fabulous too! Enjoy peaceful early mornings with a smile: you've got time to fit in an hour or two of detecting before the family stirs, rises and heads out for the day. That hour between the time your party arrives back and the evening shennigans start? Get your detector out and explore! It goes without saying that we are promoting responsible metal detecting here, following the guidelines published by the National Council of Metal Detecting (to read them in full click here: Code of Practice . Of course , you'll introduce yourself to the campsite owner on arrival and find out exactly where you can detect. Of course , you will explore the ground carefully and replace any material, leaving the ground as you found it. Of course you'll avoid trampling crops, annoying the livestock and disturbing wildlife... and yes, (sigh) , should you make that find of a lifetime and discover the suburbs of some vast Saxon hoard, you'll dutifully inform the campsite owner and any relevant authorities of your discoveries.
There were no campsites that match this pitch type so we are disregarding this and showing them all.
