Being Kent's oldest commercial vineyard, Biddenden Vineyards is a great day out for those who want to learn more about the processes, practices, knowledge and great skill involved in producing high quality wines and ciders. Set within 23 acres of gentle south-facing slope in the Kent countryside, this vineyard grows no fewer than eleven varieties of grape, producing white, red, rose and high quality sparkling wines. If you like a tipple of cider too, then you'll enjoy the traditional Kentish apple and pear juice ciders produced at Biddenden.
Biddenden Vineyards specialises largely in German varieties of grape including Ortega, Huxelrebe, Bacchus, Schonburger and Reichensteiner. One of the best times to visit is of course during harvest time in the latter half of September, when you can see the presses of the winery in operation. Or perhaps you'd like to witness the bottling of the wine which takes place early in the following year?
Like a number of vineyards in Kent, visits to Biddenden are a bucolic affair! You will be free to stroll around the vine acreage and take in the beauty of the Kent countryside. Head to the shop for free wine and cider tasting and to stock up on your favourite Biddenden wine, maybe treating yourself to a cream tea in the attached cafe. Visits to the vineyard and the wine tastings are FREE! The vineyard is open to visitors from Monday-Saturday from 10am-5pm and from 11am-5pm opn Sundays and Bank Holidays, all except for Sundays in January and February; the vineyard is closed during the week 24th December-1st January each year.
