Castle Howard Camping

Castle Howard is really more of a mansion than a castle. Opulent and magnificent, this 18th century beauty tops the ratings for visitor numbers and has been acknowledged internationally as one of the world's greatest mansions. This grand house has been home to the Howard family for over 300 years, who are now sharing their views of the 1000 acres of breathtaking grounds with thousands of visitors each year.

If you like to combine a walk or two with your appreciation of indoor opulence then Castle Howard is a great venue to place at the heart of your camping trip in the York area. With lakeside and woodland walks clearly marked and a purpose built adventure playground for the kids, you can let off steam outside before heading indoors for a tour of the house. Learn about the story of the Howard family across 11 generations, through the highs and lows of the 'modern' age. Importantly, there's an indoor trail for kids, to help them engage which what they see and hear.
