Dog Friendly Beaches North Devon

There are a number of North Devon dog friendly beaches and we have pulled in the campsites, touring grounds and holiday parks nearby so that you can plan a fabulous beach-based holiday with your four legged friends. Pack towels to dry them off, bones to keep them happy and a ball to chase and voila! Dog friendly camping here we come; there really is no need to leave them at home, even for your high summer UK camping holidays!

Most of these dog friendly beaches in North Devon are year-round dog friendly, although there are some restrictions, with 'zones' on some of the larger beaches designated dog-free in the height of summer.

Here are some details of the dog friendly beaches North Devon has to offer:

Capstone Beach, Ilfracombe: This sea-front beach in the heart of Ilfracombe is year-round dog friendly, allowing you to enjoy this vibrant seaside town with a seasonal portion or fish and chips and a home-made Devon ice-cream on the beach with your pooch! It's a small sand and shingle beach with some rocks to explore.

Hele Beach, Ilfracombe: Hele Beach is a sand and shingle beach, popular with swimmers, canoeists, for sailing and windsurfing. Dog litter bins are provided and this is a good spot to have some beach-fun with your pooch when you are enjoying the attractions of Ilfracombe Town Centre and seafront.

Rockham Bay, Mortehoe: This sand and rock beach has no facilities, however the rockpooling is well worth a visit at low tide and there are no dog restrictions. Why not take a walk along the South West Coastal path and enjoy the stunning scenery with your dog before heading down to this beach? Alternatively there is a car park half a mile away.

Barricane Beach, Woolacombe: Barricane beach is a fabulous little cove set at the side of Woolacombe's HUGE stretch of golden sand. There are some restrictions for dogs here (they need to be kept on leads from May to September) however, it's a great spot to explore with your dog. The beach is very light shingle, made up of thousands of tiny pieces of colourful caribbean shells, and the rockpooling here is excellent, with hours of exploration to keep you occupied. The beach cafe on site is second-to-none, even selling authentic Sri lankan curries - ideal for sunset suppers with your four legged friend!

Woolacombe Sands: Although dogs are banned from a zoned central section of this beach from May-Oct, the beach is so ENORMOUS that the space either side of this area is plenty for you and your dogs to enjoy year round. With golden sands, washed beautifully clean by the tide twice a day, great facilities and beach-side activities nearby, you can make this beach the base for some fabulous family days out, with your pet.

Saunton Sands: This huge sandy, surfing-famous beach is VERY dog-friendly. You have two choices: either keep your dog on a lead for the first few minutes of the walk until you get to the 3 miles of dog-friendly sands with unrestricted access. Or you can walk from the car park over the dunes and drop down on to the part of the beach that is year round dog-friendly. Easy - and the space is mind-blowing! There are days of family fun to be had here with your four legged friends by your side all the way.
