Bowleaze Cove Beach: A sand and pebble beach, with shops, a pub, a cafe, an arcade and a funfair. Swimming is popular on this beach and you can walk to nearby ruins at the top of Jordan Hill. This beach is Marine Coinservation Society Recommended. Parking at this beach is good.

Christchurch Mudford Quay Beach: This sandy beach is popular for surfing and boating as well as for dog walking. nearby Hengitsbury Head and Stawpit and important conservation areas for wildlife, so take your binoculars. There are shops, a cafe, disabled access and toilets at this beach.

Durdle Door - East Beach and Durdle Door West: These two famous shingle and gravel crescent beaches sit either side of Dorset icon Durdle Door. Both beaches are set on the edges of picture perfect coves, made famous by so many 'wish you were here' postcards. You just won't believe the blue of the water. Durdle door Easr abd West are both great swimming beaches and scuba diving, fishing and snorkling are also popular. The coastal path runs along the challenging cliffs which surround the beaches - a fairly tough walk but worth the views and the sense that you are, at times, viewing the world on its side - the angles are so incredible. There is paid parking at Durdle Door Holiday Park, where you will also find toilet facilities, a shop and cafe and facilities for disabled people.

Eypemouth Beach (Eype Beach): This is a steeply shelving pebble beach, located three miles from the bustling market town of Bridport which is well worth a visit. From Eype beach, walkers can enjoy breath-taking views across the West Dorset coast. This beach is Marine Conservation Society recommended. Parking here is usually fine and there is a hotel and toilets. Coastal paths stretch in both directions, providing great walking with stupendous views. Refreshments are available at Lower Eype.

Church Ope Cove Beach: This pebble beach is popular for swimming and snorkeling and fishing takes place off the beach. Toilets are available on site and there is a cafe and caravan park nearby. The footpaths are well marked on Portland, and walking provides a feast for the eyes here. The beach itself is overlooked by Rufus Castle.

Chesil Beach: This pebbly beach (some of the pebbles are larger than others!) is one of the most unusual beaches you will find anywhere in Britain, stretching as it does for 17 miles in what might feel like a straight line when you're actually on it! Fishing is popular off this beach and there are no restrictions on dogs all year round.
