This list of year-round dog friendly beaches on the Isle of Wight means that your faithful friend can also enjoy the sense of liberation and excitement that comes with skipping the mainland, putting some distance between him or herself and those frustrations they've been having with next door's cat. And they mean that you can also fully enjoy your UK camping trip without feeling that tug of guilt about furry friends left behind in the kennels, or that wistful pull whenever you arrive at a beach without your pooch, where other dogs and frolicking in the surf.

St Helens is a part-sand, part-pebble beach with dunes behind. You'll find a cafe on site, along with toilets including disabled facilities. This beach is popular with swimmers, for sailing and surfing and with jet-skiers. An old church ruin makes an interesting focal point and there are good views out over the St Helen's fort.

Bonchurch - The sand and shingle beaches lining the village of Bonchurch incorporate both Monks Bay and Horeshoe Bay. They are dog friendly all year round and a good place for a ramble and an explore.

Brook Bay - This sandy beach lies a bit further along the coast from Compton Bay. The coastline is beautifully wild - great for stretching both two and four legs. The views across the west of the island are well worth the visit.

Colwell Bay (to right of slipway) - Although there are some dog restrictions to the left of the slipway, the area to the right of the slipway at Colwell is dog friendly year round; the views are fabulous. This is a sand and shingle beach with a cafe, toilets including disabled facilities and a restaurant if you want to treat yourselves. Canoeing is popular here as well as windsurfing and swimming. You can walk from here to Totland Bay, although the beach atTotland is not dog friendly in high season.

Reeth Bay - If, during your Isle of Wight holidays, you are looking for a quiet beach, Reeth Bay is a great location. Situated on the Island's most southerly point, there is loads of space and plenty to explore.

Bembridge - A pebble and sand beach with some rocks making it a great place to rockpool at low tide. You'll find pubs, hotels, shops and toilets nearby. With the two local clubs, sailing is popular off the beach; the local marine museum is worth a visit and the village has the last remaining windmill on the island. Being surrounded on three sides by water, Bembridge can give you an even greater feeling of getting away from it all.

Seagrove - A sandy expanse of beach on the East of the island located between the Seaview and St Helen's beaches. There are toilet facilites at the bottom of the lane which leads down to the beach. Make your trip here at low tide as the beach at high tide almost disappears! At low tide, though, the golden sands revealed are perfect for running, frolicking and general canine silliness.
