Poole Campsites

Dorset really does give other counties a run for their money, especially when it comes to the glorious Dorset coastal frontier; no wonder British Campers head to the camping sites along the Dorset coast in such numbers during the Summer months! The stunning sea-front Poole boasts is no exception with its fine, golden sand beaches, its iconic natural harbour with the picturesque islands - Brownsea Island, Furzey Island and Green island - and the laid-back sea-side atmosphere that Dorset is famous for. Here you will find the Poole Campsites available to UK campers, from the small, more secluded campsites on the outskirts to the all-singing-all-dancing holiday parks.

If you are planning to pitch up near Poole, you may well be hankering after some beach time and you won't be disappointed. There are no fewer than five gently sheltered beaches in the vicinity of Poole, all accessible from the Poole Campsites listed here. During a week's stay you can happily satellite between the famously manicured and cleaned Sandbanks Beach (which has won more Blue Flag Awards than any other UK resort!) to the safe bathing waters at Shore Road Beach, from there to the tranquil, wildlife-rich beach under Canford Cliffs, to the year-round dog-friendly beach at Branksome Dene. Camping in Poole can assuredly be considered a 'Beach Camping' holiday!

However, this being such a geographically significant area - with the estuaries of several major rivers amalgamating in Poole Harbour - there is a lot more to do than relax on the sand and soak up the sun, if you are someone requiring a little more action and stimulus whilst camping or touring. These campsites in Poole are ideal bases from which to soak up the history and culture of this important Southern town.There is a gamut of local history, stretching back millenia, to explore when you visit. Visit Poole Museum to get up close and personal to the 2,000 year old long boat that was excavated off the coast of Brownsea Island in 1964. You can also learn about the importance of Poole as an invasion port used by the Romans as they turned their attention to the South of England.

Of course, these campsites near Poole will also enable you to explore the rich flora and fauna of the Dorset Coast, the West and South sides of Poole Harbour being part of the Purbeck Heritage Coast, protected as important wildlife havens. The Studland and Godlingston Heaths Nature Reserve is an internationally recognised area of Lowland Heath where all six species of native British reptiles are found including the rare and nationally-endangered Sand Lizard and Smooth Snake. Birders will be keen to spot the Dartford Warbler, which also has a stronghold in the reserve. You'll also know, more than likely, that the islands situated in Poole Harbour are home to the endangered Red Squirrel.
