Ben Nevis , or ‘The Ben’ as it is affectionately known, is the highest mountain in the British isles, standing at 1344 metres and is located at the Western end of the Grampian Mountains in the Lochaber area of Scotland. For climbers and mountaineers the main attraction lies in the 700 metre high cliffs if the mountain’s north face which are among the highest cliffs in the UK. They provide some of the best scrambles and rock climbs at all levels of difficulty and offer one of the principle locations in the UK for ice climbing . Site of the annual Ben Nevis Race and many other sportifs, this area really is one of the outdoor capitals of the UK. Of course, there is far more to do in this area than scale cliff faces and scramble over rocks! And there are plenty of ways to appreciate the mountains other than climbing them hand over foot. Sightseers and walkers, as well as paragliders, hangliders and mountain bikers , can use the Nevis Range mountain gondola, the only one of its kind in Britain, to get ‘up there’ more quickly and to appreciate the stunning top-of-the-world views across the Scottish Highlands and to deep-breathe the clear mountain air . The Ben Nevis distillery is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland and. Nestled at the foot of Britain’s highest mountain, it is perfectly placed for providing a reward for a hard day’s walk or climb and a great place to stop (and stock up!) before heading back to your Ben Nevis campsite. Here you will find camping in Scotland in the foothills and area surrounding Ben Nevis. Find a Ben Nevis camping option that suits you, your group’s or your family’s needs, whether you are going to be laying your head in a tent, a caravan, camper or a motorhome.
