Held each year at the end of April and into early May, the Cheltenham Jazz Festival is a week-long celebration of jazz in all its forms and varieties, in a city that takes pride in the communal festivals and events that bringthe city's community together with visitors. Taking place predominantly in Montepellier Gardens at the heart of the city, in a layout that complements the organisers' laid back approach to the festival, you can wander between tents and acts sampling jazz from both well known international jazz acts and from the up-and-comings from across the world. It's a lively, inclusive event combining swing, electronic jazz and Afro-beat jazz styles - there are few jazz fascists in sight! If you love jazz and fancy a weekend touring or camping in a great part of the UK, the camping sites listed here would make a great base for the week of the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. There is a programme of ticketed events, so you might want to treat yourself to an exclusive event or two from the varied line up each year. However there are also plenty of free music events and fun family activities going on in Montpelier Gardens which is an ideal place to soak up the festival atmosphere and allow the younger members of your crew to get used to festival life. There are jazz workshops for kids who want to try their hands and mouths at some jazz and blues... really small littlies can even take part in a teddy bears picnic.
