With over 40 years of surfing history, we don’t need to sell Croyde Bay to you as a fantastic surfing camping venue; folk who have never crossed the Devon border or even laid hands on a boogie board know about Croyde and its world class A-frame barrels: this is the UK’s Goldcoast. Here you will find campsites and touring grounds within a nose-tip of the surf: look no further for Surfing holidays in Croyde Bay!
The low-tide barrels of Croyde beach have long since entered local and national folk lore and surfers from near and far get their fix at Croyde beach or one of the other large West-facing beaches along the North Devon coastline. One of the draws is that these breaks are reliable all year round for surfers, kite-surfers and stand up paddle boards (SUP), although September to November in this area is fabled as surfs-up prime time. Kitesurfing in Croyde bay is fantastic!
Surfers come for the waves, of course, but also for the surf culture, the banter and the night-life, when the charming seaside village of Croyde blossoms into a veritable surf capital. And kids love it for the reasons that kids always love the beach: vast expanses of clean sand, rockpools and ice-creams. Visit our friends at Surf South West (www.surfsouthwest.com; tel: 01271 890400) for details of surf tuition and further advice on surfing in the area.
Saunton’s huge beach, Saunton Sands, is ideal for beginners, longboarders and kiters. The space is vast: it is a mecca for surfers and sun-seekers but the sheer magnitude of sand, dunes and never-ending sky make it spacious and instantly relaxing.
With excellent facilities (you can even have your wedding reception at the Sands Café overlooking the beach, and share a toast on the nose of your board, if you’re that keen) and easy access, Saunton has it all. For those staying in a tent, camper, motorhome or caravan, camping and surfing at Saunton is just plain easy – as a relaxing holiday should be! The surf school at Saunton, the first nationally to be awarded Level 4 status by the British Surfing Association, provides year round tuition and board hire making Saunton ideal for all abilities, particularly for families wanting to surf together.
On these pages you will find campsites near Saunton Sands and Croyde Bay camping, just a leash-length from the surfing action. Find a camp site or touring site which meets the needs of you and your group or family, whether you are using a tent, motorhome, caravan or camper as your surfing base. Croyde is only 60 minutes from the M5 and Saunton not much further – if you’re board crazy, that’s tantalizingly close!
There were no campsites that match this pitch type so we are disregarding this and showing them all.
