Wild swimming at Loch Caoldair

Scotland’s open access laws make the thousands of freshwater lochs in Scotland a haven for wild swimmers, eager to discover and explore new open air swimming and wild swimming sites. A favourite, though, is wild swimming at Loch Caoldair, in the West of the Cairngorms and here you will find the only campsite near Loch Caoldair.

The Loch’s accessibility (it’s only a mile from the road and just over three from Laggan village) is a bonus but, in spite of its relative proximity to civilization, it is completely wild hidden as it is in woodland, providing a really unique wild swimming experience. The peace of this site is palpable and the sandy beach is a wonderful place to picnic, read or soak up the sun between dips. There are also some great waterfalls a mile down the road at Sherramore Forest. Back at the campsite, be it in tent, caravan or motorhome, a part of you will still be swimming.
