Wastwater Camping

Swimming in the Lake District is big news, unsurprisingly considering the sheer number of beautiful bodies of water calling out to be tested. Wastwater is a quartz-bedded lake, nearly 5km long and over 600 metres wide and the deepest lake in England at 79 metres, so the water isn’t warm (!) but it is fantastically clear. The lake is set in the Lake District’s stunning Wasdale Valley, surrounded by some of the highest peaks in England, often reflected in the water below.

Pilgrim swimmers looking for distance and endurance often plan trips to this lake but it’s ideal, too, for impromptu dips. These Lake District camping sites will place you within 5 miles of Wastwater.
