Campsites in Devon - ooh-arr!

OK, let's get all of the stereotypes out of the way in the first paragraph, shall we?

Let's call a boy a 'bay', and head down to the shore dreckly (directly). And, if 'tis not bloin' a hooley, we'll just crocky down there on the sand, spread the lashings of clotted cream on the gurt scones we customarily carry with us in our backpacks, wave to the grockles calling, "Awright mackerel?" and be done with it. Proper job!

Of course, not everyone in Devon talks like a pirate, dresses like a fisherman and keeps the second shelf of their fridge permanently stocked with clotted cream. However there is enough of the 'old country' still about the place to keep dialects and traditions going and this is one of the great drawers of the county for the many thousands of visitors who return time and again to campsites in Devon. Devon's fabled shores are close enough for surfers to reach on a Friday night, within 3.5 hours drive of our country's fair capital, but it feels like you've travelled a lot further, things be so different down 'ere.

"You can't go wrong with Devon camping", I was knowingly told the other day by a seasoned motorhome camper who makes several trips to the county with his family each year and after generations of perfecting their offer to visitors, it's not difficult to find campsites in Devon bordering on 'perfect'. Whether you are looking for hardstanding, electric pitches on all-serviced sites with evening entertainment or small, secluded basic campsites more akin to wild camping, our directory of Holiday Parks in Devon has ideal sites for you and your family. Use the 'refine search' button to filter the results and find your perfect pitch, be that a site that allows open fires, a site with disabled access or one which is dog friendly so you don't have to pay kennel fees while you're away!

If you really want to get under the skin of the county and understand its still very rural roots, then planning your stay around the annual county show will be illuminating and oodles of fun. Choosing one of these Devon County Show Campsites for a couple of nights of your Devon touring or camping holiday will give you the chance to stock up on the fabulous food and drink produced in the county before heading deeper into darkest Devon.

Perhaps you're coming to Devon for a specific purpose? Surfing the gold coast of the county's north beaches is ideal for both beginners and pros alike. For Campsites near Saunton Sands and Croyde Bay camping click here. If you're dreaming of a more laid-back all round beach holiday with a bit of surfing, body boarding or wave-play thrown in, then Surfing holidays near Bigbury on Sea are worth a look with the huge yellow sandy beaches and lazy dunes at both Bigbury and Bantham on offer as well as the more secluded coves of Wembury and Thurlestone nearby.

Scuba Diving is popular all along the Devon coast with Teignmouth, Torbay and Plymouth Sound along the south coast as reknowned hotspots. Why not learn to dive along this diverse coastline during your holiday and get to know Devon beneath the waves as well as the Devon above. For more details search our listings of Campsites near scuba diving, South Devon.

And, of course, lying at the heart of Devon is Dartmoor National Park, 368 square miles of wild, spectacular space in which to relax, imagine, unwind, have fun and, most importantly, to breath and think.

So, setting Ambrosia aside, you can revel in Devon's icons and stereotypes (some of them are incredibly tasty and really should not be missed) as well as having fabulous holidays camping Devon style.

By the way, I've lived in Devon for 36 years now and I'm proud of it: can you tell?
