If you are thinking of travelling to the Lake District for a caravan and camping holiday (many do, let's be honest!) then you could use a visit to the Cumberland Show as a great starting point for your holiday: immerse yourself in everything that the region is most proud of in terms of farming and agriculture, food and craft to really get a feel for the traditions of the place before heading to the hills. The Cumberland Show is a long standing show, in its 176th year, offering an eclectic mix of both tradition and modern-fun. Come here to see top quality livestock handled with the skills built up over generations; watch the Shetland Pony Grand Nationals (don't worry - they've lowered the fences slightly!) , listen to the Langholm Pipe Band, established over a century ago, perform their characteristic music; bare witness to the brute force and skill of Cumberland and West Moorland wrestlers battling it out and visit the model farm to see cows milked and sheep sheared. And then, just when you least expect it, steeped as you are in the traditions of a bygone era, you're likely to be confronted by Titan the robot or find yourself in a queue for the 'control a digger' competition. Here you will find campsites in Cumbria near to the Cumberland Show, an ideal stop-off before heading to the Lakes.
