Eskdale Camping near Scafell Pike

Eskdale camping is a fabulous base for accessing so many wonderful features of the Lake District. Within the Eskdale Valley lie Boot, Eskdale Green and Ravenglass, three villages full of character, all extending a warm welcome to visitors: plan your stay during their yearly beer festival (The Boot Festival in June) for a lively time! Shaped by the beautiful river eask which falls from the base of the majestic Scafell Pike before running down to rolling green hills towards the sea. This valley is a microcosm of everything Lakeland has to offer.

And for those of you interested in scaling the highest peak in England, making an Eskdale campsite your base for the summit attempt is a good place to start. Scafell Pike is by serious mountain climbers' standards a moderately challenging ascent and if you are including it in the Three Peaks Challenge or even the Five Peaks Challenge, it's true, you do need to be really rather fit. However we ordinary mortals, when guided by someone who knows and with the correct equipment on a day when the weather isn't too inclement, shouldn't rule out the possibility of experiencing the exhilaration and beauty of the views across England, Scotland and Wales that the summit of Scafell Pike can yield.
