Ravenglass Camping

OK, so Ravenglass isn't a town, as such... in fact, is it really even a village? Arguments aside, Ravenglass is a truly magical Cumbrian community to visit, with some serious historical clout: this coastal hamlet, situated as it is on the estuary of three major rivers, was an important Roman naval base in the 2nd century. Little remains of the original Roman works but, looking to the rising hills and across the vast waters, it is not difficult to imagine habitation on a rather larger scale than currently exists!

Choosing one of these Ravenglass campsites will place you within easy reach of the attractions local to Ravenglass: visit Muncaster Castle which dominates the River Esk, set in 77 acres of woodland gardens and steeped in getting on for a thousand years of history. You can even 'feed the herons' at Muncaster Castle if you fancy it and the World Owl Trust is set within the grounds of the castle too. In Ravenglass itself there is a gift shop to peruse and the Ravenglas and Eskdale railway which runs across the estuary and through the local hills and valleys - well worth the trip. To finish your day before returning to your tent or tourer, enjoy some local nosh and a jar or two of local ale in the Ratty Arms at Ravenglass.
