This stunning valley in the Western Highlands of Scotland has long held the imagination of climbers and mountaineers, offering some of the most beautiful and challenging terrain for outdoor pursuits in the British Isles and all within a relatively compact area. Managed by the National Trust for Scotland, Glencoe offers climbers 8 munroes to scramble and more than twenty major world-class climbing sites, each with a number of distinct routes to explore. The great thing for climbers about Glen Coe is that, whether you are a world class mountaineer or sports climber or you are a total novice looking for some scenic climbs to get your started, you will find them in this fabulous valley. It's fair to say, though, that the Glencoe Camping sites listed here will provide you with a base from which to experience some of the best and most scenic climbing the UK can provide. Buachaille Etive Mor, the region's most spectacular and iconic mountain dominates the landscape and provides climbers with over 250 routes with some challenging routes for serious climbers. The Rannoch Wall and Crowberry Ridge offer spectacular settings for some popular routes with Rannoch Moor a stunning backdrop. Other famous routes on this mountain include Agag’s Groove, January Jigsaw and Crowberry Gully - a popular winter route on this beautiful mountain. Another popular site accessible from the A82 which runs through Glen Coe, is the East Face of Aonach Dubh, offering some 90 climbs. If you are new to Glen Coe and looking for less technical climbs you will find some easier grade routes here. Aonach Dubh, East Face, is a relatively accessible crag with highlights likeThe Lower and Upper Bow, Quiver Rib and Archer Ridge. For those who want to hone their ice-climbing skills climbers can visit Ice Factor in nearby Kinlochleven, where you'll find some of the UK's most challenging climbing walls and the world's biggest indoor ice-climbing wall - a testing 250m circuit some 15 metres above the ground.
