Eco Camp UK

These campsites have all identified themselves as sites with more than a passing interest in the environment. Indeed they consider themselves as 'Eco Campsites', committed to providing the back-to-basics experience of camping that so many UK campers crave in order to step aside from the energy guzzling frenetic pace of modern life. These sites provide campers with options to enjoy an Eco Camp UK, dedicated as they are to keeping energy consumption to a minimum and have in place a number of ingenuities that allow greener energy to be harnesses and utilised on site and for waste to be handled in as sustainable a way as possible.

Ever used a composting loo? It's a kind of dry toilet that predominantly uses aerobic processing to treat waste and aid decomposition...so it uses far less water and no chemicals, compared with the far more energy-intensive and polluting process that usually occurs when we flush a loo. And a number of these sites use rainwater harvesting too to preserve water - one of our most previous natural resources, most often taken completely for granted. Rainwater harvesting is a simple yet transforming process, whereby rainwater is collected from the surfaces upon which it falls and is stored for later use. Often based in rural areas, a number of these sites also use biomass boilers if they need to generate energy for use on their campsite, using the local, sustainable wood and chip available to produce energy with far less environmental impact.

Each of these sites is, of course, very different in nature and, as you can see, they are spread out across the UK. View each site's listing to help you decide which of these Eco Campsites will best suit your other needs as holiday makers. If the idea of being car-free excites you, you'll find the 'Cycle Route' tab on each site's individual listing a great help in planning how to get around whilst you are away on holiday - we list the local, regional and national cycle routes in the vicinity of each site and provide you with maps that you can use to plan your movements. You can also use the 'Things to Do' tab to help you plan efficient car journeys if you have to make them - we list well over 1000 pubs, restaurants, shops and attractions local to each campsite, with reviews of and directions to each from the campsite you are staying on.
